Show Notes

The South Australian Government is implementing further reforms to strengthen the state’s skills system under the new South Australian Skills Act (SAS Act), making it more flexible and easier to navigate for everyone involved.

The changes under the new SAS Act are intended to fairly balance apprenticeship and traineeship obligations for all parties, while also creating a system where more apprentices and trainees develop skills for future jobs.

Together with new Regulations and Standards – the SAS Act introduces simpler processes and clear responsibilities for employers, apprentices and trainees, registered training organisations, group training organisations and state government agencies.

Importantly, the changes will be overseen by a new South Australian Skills Commission (SASC) which came into operation on 1 July, 2021.

Under the leadership of Renee Hindmarsh, the Commission will continue to work with industry to make it easier for employers to train and up-skill staff and for our future workers to complete their training and qualifications.

The reforms to the training sector will see South Australia continue its nation-leading growth in apprenticeship and trainee commencements.
