DPC Communications

The $177 million Public Housing Improvement Program is building 437 new homes (around 150 in regional SA), undertaking maintenance to make 350 public homes tenantable again, (approx.. 130 in regional SA) and undertaking maintenance on another 3000 tenanted properties (approx. 1,100 in regional SA)

The first 81 homes are underway, these include homes in Salisbury, St Mary’s, Plympton, Croydon Park, Kilburn, Woodville Gardens, Parafield Gardens, Elizabeth East/Park/South/Downs in metropolitan Adelaide.  In regional area the homes in these first 81 are in Mount Gambier, Murray Bridge and Mount Barker.

They include ten homes in Mt Gambier, being built by a local Mount Gambier builder, these 10 homes are progressing well with slabs down and frames going up on the homes.

It is anticipated these first 81 homes will be completed during 2023.

The homes are being built within both sustainability and accessibility in mind, to meet the Silver standard of the Liveability Guidelines, which in the future will be formally part of the building code.

In this segment, we hear from Joe Noone, Director of Capital Programs at the SA Housing Authority about the program and what it means for South Australians. Joe oversees all of the tendering and of projects and identification of sites for new projects, as well as scoping works for maintenance programs.
